The challenge

As more age-restricted products like alcohol, vape, and prescription medications are sold online, businesses face growing regulatory scrutiny and logistical complexity around verifying customer age at the point of delivery. Traditional home drop-offs lack the infrastructure to ensure compliance consistently, leading to failed deliveries, fines, and customer frustration.

We were tasked with creating a secure, scalable way to verify age upon delivery — without disrupting the convenience of e-commerce.

project goals

This project aimed to enhance our smart locker network with reliable age-verification features while maintaining seamless access and user experience for legitimate recipients.

  • 🧾 Enable Digital Age Verification at the locker interface

  • 🔐 Ensure Compliance with local and national age-restriction laws

  • 🧠 Integrate with Platform Databases to validate order-level requirements

  • 📦 Support a Range of Regulated Goods (alcohol, prescriptions, etc.)

  • 🚫 Prevent Unauthorized Access with dynamic PINs and ID checks

the result

We introduced dual-layer verification technology into our locker systems:

  1. Pre-screening during checkout, syncing with government-verified ID services or third-party KYC providers.

  2. On-site locker verification, where the user must scan ID or verify identity via facial authentication or barcode scan at the time of collection.

For merchants, this meant fully compliant last-mile deliveries without needing in-person courier checks. For users, it preserved privacy and convenience.

Retailers saw a 34% drop in failed or cancelled age-restricted deliveries in the first 60 days. Regulatory partners responded positively, with several jurisdictions recognizing our model as compliant with evolving digital verification laws.

Key Takeaway:
Age-gated deliveries can be secure, smart, and scalable — when embedded into the infrastructure itself. This project redefined compliance through automation.
